History

The PA Hoop Stars is a non-profit, 501c3 organization founded in the winter of 1996 by Walter Stewart, Lois Payne and Joanne Mravintz. The Club began with one team of girls and quickly expanded to three teams.

During 1997 the Club expanded to 17 teams (more than 150 girls, ages 10-16). These teams competed in tournaments in Western Pennsylvania and throughout the Eastern US.

During the 1999 season the Club expanded to include boys, with 5 teams for boys ages 10-14. The club currently (2002) has 17 girls' teams and 8 boys' teams.

Some PA Hoop Star teams are competitive nationally, competing in AAU Nationals, YBOA Nationals and US Junior National Tournaments from Florida to Connecticut and as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada. Other Club teams compete regionally and locally. The PA Hoop Stars are committed to developing players to their full potential on and off the court.
